Looking Glass Quilt

I pattern tested for Cheryl Brickey of Meadow Mist Designs again. I enjoy testing for her, her patterns are very well written and easy to follow. And besides, she makes interesting typos. Instead of selvedges, she had savages. It created all kinds of interesting pictures in my little mind.

This pattern is charm and layer cake friendly, and includes baby, lap twin and queen sizes, all in one. I picked up a charm pack of batiks and white Stonehenge for my background. I loved the way the batik brights played against the white, but not a stark white. The little bit of Stonehenge pattern softened it. And popped the colors of the batiks. I made a baby size quilt.

All the negative space made me want to designs feathers for there. I chose to add a border on the sides--the pattern was not written that way. It just looked uneven to me. Took my new quilting recruit with me to pick out backing. I never plan ahead enough to buy backing and binding when I choose the main fabrics. Do you? I almost think the quilt has to talk to me to choose backing/binding. Wouldn't it be funny (and creepy) if all the quilts started "talking" at once?

Here are some pictures of my Looking Glass. (I wonder how Cheryl comes up with her pattern names.)

The larger colored squares have six-pointed stars on them, a little something I learned at my recent HandiQuilter class. All-in-all, I'm very happy with this quilt.

I don't need a copy of the pattern, but I just wanted to stop by and say beautiful finish! Love the brightness of the batiks, and your quilting is great. I'm a huge fan of feathers, and I think yours work really well in that negative space.

Beautiful quilt! Some baby will be very lucky to be wrapped up in such luscious colors. I got to your website from a link on Cheryl's emails.

I love the quilt. I agree that the white makes the batiks pop -- you are so good with the feathers your Arkansas friend

I think this would be a great quilt for children. I make a lot of Project Linus quilts and I am always looking for something that I can make easily, but will be interesting.

I'm also a follower of Cheryl and love her quilts. I was a math major and a computer programmer and a website tester. So, I think it may be natural that I love, love, love her creations. I would love to have a copy of her pattern. I adore the quilt you made. I have one fat quarter bundle of batiks and you give me reason to fall in love with batiks now. I adore your quilting, too. Thanks for supporting Cheryl in her endeavors and I'm thrilled to be following you, now.

Lovely quilt. I prefer to work with charm packs for variety until I get some stash built up. However, I've been encouraged or warned that that won't take long. I just retired so I'd have more time for fun. kthurn@bektel.com

I haven't used Fray Check in some years. I have accumulated so many charm packs I need to create something with them soon.

I love to use precuts, I am a disaster trying to combine fabrics from different lines/manufacturers! A charm pack or layer cake has everything I need, nicely coordinated. Thanks for the chance to win! jacklynnsteven at netzero dot com

Your batik quilt is a wonderful version of this pattern. I don'y use precuts, but I think batiks from my stash would create a nice scrappy look. mfhagopian@aol.com
