A Squishy Package

I got a squishy package in the mail today! Yay! Don't you love squishies??

This one was from Pam, my Supernova partner. We had decided to continue making blocks til we had 16. The original plan was 10. Well, 10 just didn't seem right to either of us. What would you do, a 5 x 2 quilt? Nope, not gonna happen. Sixteen it was.

We planned on using Kaffe Fassett prints, neither of us had used his stuff before. And we decided I would make cool colors (because I'm cool), and she would make hot colors (guess what that says about her).

We dutifully exchanged out blocks monthly. Then life got in our way. Had a break, then I got a chance to catch up. I sent all my blocks to Pam. I told her January of February was fine, since we would be in Florida anyway.

She caught up. Man, do I love this quilt! This is gonna be one spectacular quilt! The colors pop, the prints are jumpin'. They're almost all Kaffe prints. Pam said she added one that reminded her of DNA, apt since we're both in the medical fields. See if you can find it.

They're just laid out on a bed, but aren't they spectacular?????

I'm wondering about using sashing to set the wild and crazy colors apart. See the gray in the last photo? Mr LQ suggested I might want a darker color. Something to mull over.

Supernova Revisited

I finished my Supernova blocks to send to Pam in Kalamazoo, MI. These are my last two. Woo Hoo. Waiting for mine from Pam, then to decide how to put them together. I'm thinking of sashing to separate all those bright, saturated colors a little. We'll see. I think I would use the gray we've been using as background for continuity.

Here are my new blocks:

They're mostly Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I thought they all were, the page they were listed on said his name, but they fooled me! Now I don't know which ones are his. I think they are all of a likeness tho, so I'm happy.

Super Nova

My partner, Pam, will be happy to know that her blocks are DONE! They will be in the mail tomorrow! YAY!!

I have one block sitting on top of some others, because I have 10 and they don't fit on my design board. When we are done we will each have 12. We decided to go a little longer than the swap was planned for because we thought 10 was an awkward number. Pam made the hot colors, and I made the cool ones. I guess you know why I got the cool ones. I guess you can guess why she got the hot ones...

The block sitting on top has the cool wavy green print at the edges.

My golfing buddy was just here and she thought these were pretty cool looking blocks.

Now on to making my bee blocks.

SUPERNOVA BLOCK 4

I received my Supernova Block from Pam the other day. Mine is winging its way over to her. Here are our four blocks playing together so nicely.

I'm making the cool colors, and she's making the warm colors. Won't this be stunning? We will have 10 blocks when we're done. I'll probably want more. (I'm so greedy.)

Supernova My Block 2!

I spent two days busily making my Supernova Block 2. I chose to make this one in blues. My partner and I decided she will make the warm colors and I will make the cool ones. No doubt, because I'm so cool!!! Yeah, baby!

I sent her a picture of my block. She's not ready to send hers yet, so she asked that I wait until she's ready before I send mine to her. I had asked her if she wanted a picture or wanted to be surprised. She wanted the pic NOW! She also said I could go ahead and blog about it now too.

So here's my block:

I think it kinda looks like there's light coming from the center.

Supernova, First Warm Block

I'm so excited! I got my first block from Pam. Wow, such fun. What great fabrics.
I showed my block to some quilters today. They commented that they would have a hard time not having the stripes go in the same direction on the outermost fabric. Doesn't bother me too much.

Here's mine again:

There, see the stripes? I think Kaffe's fabrics are so busy, that it isn't so noticeable as it might be with other designers.

I love how some colors are showing in both locks. There's a bit of magenta in mine, more in hers. She's got some aqua, so do I. Bit of orange. I think that's because we chose the same designer. I certainly can't take credit for that...
So glad Pam suggested that gray. I think it's perfect!
I'm excited, can you tell?

First Supernova Block

I worked on my first Supernova Block tonight! The first one took quite a bit of time, what with stitching, unstitching, stitching, unstitching. The directions have a solid green as their background fabric, and I have a solid green, not background fabric. I kept getting mixed up. I had to make myself a cheat sheet.

Here's my first block. When I make Pam's, the points should come out a little better, being a little used to it.

WOWSERS! I like it!

Supernova and Exercise. Why do I like one better than the other?

I joined in the Supernova Friendship Swap. You can read all about it Here. It is being hosted by Late Night Quilter and sounds like great fun tome. We joined up with a partner and we will each make 2 identical blocks a month for 5 months, send one of the two to our partner. At the end, we'll each have 10 blocks--5 we made ourselves and 5 our partner made.

My partner is Pam. Turns out she lives about 2 hours away, but I didn't know her. It feels nice to be making new friends. We discussed how we wanted to make our blocks, colors, styles, etc. I've been wanting to work with Kaffe Fassett prints, so we easily decided upon that. Pam will be concentrating on the warm colors, and I get the cool ones. Using gray as our background color.







I ordered my Kaffe's from Canton Village Fabrics. Very quick service. I'm happy. Here are my Kaffe's:

I also got some shot cottons to add to the Kaffes.

Our background is Kona cotton ash, a light gray.

I've printed off my directions and I'm ready to get started.

I don't like to exercise. I'm a couch potato. I admit it.

Last year, I made myself learn to run. I followed the 8 Weeks to 5K program. It took me more than 8 weeks to be able to run 30 minutes at a time. I struggled. Then came winter, snow, cold, Christmas (not necessarily in that order). I stopped running. So it was 8 weeks (really 12 weeks) to 5K, and then about 0 weeks to couch potato.

I'm confessing this all because I have started back up. Two weeks ago I started walking with the dog every morning, then last week I ran three times. That's what the program recommends. I huffed and puffed. The Big Bad Wolf's got nothing on me! I ran today.

Weird tho. It doesn't make me sleep any better.

I am also taking a golf class for women. Had the first one today. I try too hard. Don't swing so hard, and I hit the ball better. Got to remember this.
